FIELD: methods for producing thiols.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing thiols of the RSH formula by a gas-phase catalytic reaction of hydrogen sulphide with an alcohol of the ROH formula, where R represents alkyl, characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of a solid catalyst that contains one or more pure or mixed oxides of rare earth elements, one or more pure or mixed rare earth sulphides, one or more pure or mixed rare earth oxysulphides, or mixtures of said mixed oxides, mixed sulphides and mixed oxysulphides. Provided that the rare earth element is lanthanum, the catalyst is a mixed lanthanum oxide and at least one metal selected from rare earth elements or not, and when the catalyst is cerium dioxide, the catalyst is applied to the substrate.
EFFECT: method for catalytic gas-phase hydrosulphurisation of methanol with a high degree of conversion and high selectivity towards methanethiol with a reduction in the formation of non-recoverable by-products.
