FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used when processing external surfaces such as bodies of rotation, including complex profiles, with free abrasive material. The method involves rotating the workpiece in a rotating drum with abrasive material. A drum is used with a horizontal axis of rotation and an internal cylindrical surface that forms a chamber into which abrasive material is poured. The workpiece is installed horizontally so that the axes of rotation of the drum and the workpiece are located parallel and offset. The rotation of the drum and the workpiece is carried out in one direction to form in the chamber an area of abrasive material that is evenly compacted at the points of interaction between the workpiece surface and the abrasive material.
EFFECT: quality of processing is improved by equalizing the contact pressures on the processed surfaces, eliminating the need to use pneumatic and hydraulic systems when processing parts.
