SUBSTANCE: method that includes selecting first-calf heifers, determining the amount of milk production and ranking first-calf heifers to low-productive, medium-productive and high-productive. According to the invention, milk productivity indicators of the dams of first-calf heifers and dams of the bull sires of these first-calf heifers are used, while the average milk production for the 3rd , 4th and 5th lactation of dams of first-calf heifers and dams of bull-sires of these first-calf heifers, then determine the amount of 1% milk from these milk production using the formula:

M1%=Y×F, where

M1% - amount of 1% milk, kg; Y - milk production per lactation, kg; F - fat content in milk, %, further, to rank the selected first-calf heifers into low-productive, medium-productive and high-productive, milk fat is used as an indicator of milk productivity, the amount of which is determined separately in the milk of the first-calf dam and the dam of the bull sire of the first-calf heifer, according to the formula:

EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of predicting the milk productivity of first-calf heifers in the claimed method.
