FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: method is proposed for preparing a suspension of a biological sample for identifying microorganisms and determining their sensitivity to antimicrobial agents, which involves preparing a suspension of the sample in a container by combining a biological sample that is believed to contain one or more microorganisms with a sample diluent; measuring the turbidity of the prepared sample suspension; determining whether the measured turbidity is within a predetermined range of 0.2 McFarland units to 2 McFarland units; calculating the volume of prepared suspension required to inoculate a predetermined volume of culture medium based on the ratio of the predetermined target turbidity for suspension to inoculate the culture medium and the measured turbidity multiplied by the actual volume of prepared sample suspension required to deliver the predetermined amount of biological sample to the culture medium; and applying the calculated volume of the sample suspension to the culture medium.

EFFECT: invention provides an expansion of the arsenal of automated methods for preparing a sample suspension for both a system that identifies microorganisms and a system that examines microorganisms in relation to their resistance/sensitivity to antimicrobial agents.
