FIELD: medical devices.

SUBSTANCE: automatically folding walking support, such as a cane or Nordic walking pole, or a push-off stick, such as a ski pole. Its rod is telescopically foldable, and its peculiarity is that the spring connecting its telescopic pair serves to fold the support, since in dangerous situations emergency shortening of its rod is required. It is convenient when pedestrians suddenly crowd together in oncoming traffic, and especially convenient when falling. The support device is designed so that in case of a fall with involuntary release of the support from the hand, its rod will automatically shorten. If the user gets ahead of such automation, then, without releasing his hand, the support will shorten according to his will and he will be able to push off from the ground with it, either preventing a complete fall, or significantly softening it. The problems solved by the invention most often happen to old people; because of this, quite a noticeable share of the total injuries is due to this problem. This problem is relevant for young people too. They are prone to fast movements, especially if they use poles on rollers.
