SUBSTANCE: method for assessing the quality of potentially suitable raw materials for producing needle coke is disclosed, including coking various types of raw materials to produce cokes, establishing a graphical dependence of the quality of the obtained cokes on the parameters of the raw materials, in which the microstructure of the obtained cokes is determined in points, for which the optical absorption density of a solution of the raw material in an organic aromatic solvent in the visible region of the absorption spectrum 420-600 nm and calculate the integral oscillator strength (IOS) in the specified region of the absorption spectrum, establish a graphical dependence of the coke microstructure in points on the ISO of the raw material, then in the specified region of the absorption spectrum is determined by electronic phenomenological spectroscopy, the optical absorption density of a solution of a potentially suitable raw material in an organic aromatic solvent, followed by calculation of the ISO, and depending on the obtained ISO, using an established graphical dependence, the quality of the potentially suitable raw material is assessed by the microstructure of the coke in points.
