SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining insoluble melanin from the dead body of the black soldier fly Hermetia illucens. The method of obtaining insoluble melanin from the dead body of the black soldier fly Hermetia illucens is as follows: 200–400 g of dried dead fly is subjected to stages of demineralization by treating 100–1,500 ml of 1–2% HCl at a room temperature for 1.5–2 hours and deproteinization by treatment with 15 w/v% NaOH at 100°C, the solid residue is filtered on a porous glass filter, washed with distilled water to neutral pH values and dried, then treated with 50 w/v% NaOH for 1.5–2 hours at 100°C with stirring, the solid residue is separated on a porous glass filter, and the filtrate is diluted 15–20 times with distilled water, after the formation of a melanin precipitate, it is washed once with distilled water by decanting, then the melanin suspension is transferred to a dialysis bag, dialyzed against water in Spectra/Por Membrane MWCO:14,000 to pH of not more than 9 and freeze-dried.

EFFECT: method described above makes it possible to obtain melanin with a wide range of potential applications, including due to its insolubility, the resulting product is preferable as a sorbent of heavy metals and radionuclides.
