FIELD: road and railway construction.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in construction and reconstruction of overpasses and bridges on roads and railways. The bridge abutment contains a means for absorbing the vertical load from the superstructure, including supports supporting the span, a head, a cabinet wall, a transition slab, and a means for accepting the horizontal load from the soil of the approach embankment, made in the form of a retaining wall. The retaining wall is made in the form of a prefabricated C-shaped reinforced concrete slab structure, placed in the body of the approach embankment under the transition slab with the formation of an air cavity under the head of the abutment, and installed resting on a soil platform dumped above the natural surface of the foundation soil.
EFFECT: reduction in labour intensity during the construction of abutments, a reduction in construction time while simultaneously ensuring the reliability and durability of the structure under conditions of exposure to frost heaving forces.
