FIELD: object recognition.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to a method and a device for object recognition. The object recognition method includes detecting a plurality of positions on the surfaces of objects in the environment of one's own vehicle along a predetermined direction and obtaining a group of points; generating a captured image of the environment of your own vehicle; grouping the points included in the resulting group of points and classifying the points into a group of possible object points. Then, from a number of candidate points, the candidate points being points included in a group of candidate points, the position at which the change in the distance from one's own vehicle between adjacent candidate points increases from a value equal to or less than a predetermined threshold value to a value greater than a predefined threshold value is extracted as a possible boundary position. The possible boundary position is the outer end position of the object, extracting the region in which a person is detected in the captured image as a partial region through image recognition processing, and when in the captured image, the position of the possible boundary position is the same as the boundary position of the partial region, wherein the boundary position is external end position in a given direction, recognizing that a pedestrian is present in a partial area.
EFFECT: increase of the accuracy of detecting a pedestrian positioned close by their own vehicle.
