SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a device and method of detecting objects. Method implemented by the object detection device includes the following steps. Obtaining three-dimensional data on the area near the considered vehicle by using the distance measurement sensor. Based on the cartographic data, a lane is extracted, along which the vehicle should move along the planned track. Based on road structure information included in the cartographic data, the category of roads is determined, the direction of movement of which indicates the planned movement area, as areas of presence of intersecting objects, in which at the moment there are objects, which are more likely to cross the vehicle in future in the planned traffic area. Areas of presence of intersecting objects are extracted and an object is detected by using three-dimensional data on inner parts of regions of presence of intersecting objects.
EFFECT: enabling early detection of an object which is likely to cross the path of the vehicle in question in the future.
