FIELD: special electrometallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: used in the manufacture of a pressed consumable electrode for smelting ingots from titanium alloys in a vacuum arc electric furnace. The method for hardening pressed electrodes made of titanium alloys consists of placing the pressed electrode on rollers that rotate the electrode, mutual positioning of the pressed electrode and the working tool, and the hardening operation in the shape of forming fused seams on the side surface of the pressed electrode. The hardening operation is carried out using a continuous ytterbium fiber laser using process gas, while the laser radiation power is maintained in the range of 15-50 kW, and the deviation of the laser beam from the position of the focal point is set in the range of 20-150 mm. The formation of a fused seam is carried out at a speed of 0.4-4 mm/min. Argon is used as a process gas. The process gas flow rate is set in the range of 10-400 l/min. The gap between the outer end of the tooling nozzle and the electrode surface is maintained in the range of 4-50 mm. From 6 to 50 fused seams are formed on one pressed electrode. The hardening operation is carried out automatically according to a given program.
EFFECT: increasing the mechanical strength of pressed electrodes.
