FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: claimed invention relates to the field of formation of a neutron beam in a wide energy range. A device for forming a neutron beam contains a proton accelerator, a proton channel, a target designed to produce fast neutrons, and a moderator located sequentially on one longitudinal axis, and a moderator surrounded by a means designed to absorb radiation to produce a directed flux of epithermal and thermal neutrons. The device is equipped with a diaphragm with an adjustable outlet, made of POV material, located after the mentioned moderator, on the same axis with it. The said moderator is removable, in the shape of a truncated cone, with its large base facing the outlet of the device. The mentioned means is a set of equidistant hollow truncated cones, located one inside the other, close to each other, on the large bases of which the shell is located. The first cone, counting from the mentioned axis, is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with the addition of amorphous boron in an amount of 5–7 vol.% and tungsten balls with a diameter of 1 to 10 mm, the second cone is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with the addition of amorphous boron in an amount of 5–7 vol.%, the third cone is made of spheroplastics with the addition of boron carbide at the rate of 20 vol.% boron, the fourth cone is made of spheroplastics with the addition of boron carbide at the rate of 10 vol.% boron, and the shell is made of POV material.
EFFECT: invention provides increased safety of use of the device while simultaneously simplifying its manufacture and use.
