FIELD: chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention makes it possible to obtain a high-quality valuable chemical reagent (calcium carbide). The method, carried out by melting a charge of lime and a carbonaceous reducing agent in an electrothermal furnace, differs in that the charge used is a monocharged mixture of fine hydrated lime and a carbonaceous reducing agent which is flotation carbon concentrate obtained by processing coal foam from the electrolysis of aluminum.
EFFECT: reduction of cost of the initial reagents involved in the production process of calcium carbide, reduction of temperature and time of smelting calcium carbide and thereby reduction of energy costs, and improvement of quality of the final product.
