FIELD: packaging.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to packaging material intended for use in a packaged snuff product intended for oral use to surround a smokeless tobacco composition or a non-tobacco composition. The packaging material is a saliva permeable nonwoven material containing carded fibres, of which 0-95% of the carded fibres are type 1 fibres and 5-100% of the carded fibres are type 2 fibres. The first type of fibres are cellulose-based staple fibres. The second type of fibres are thermoplastic fibres containing the first component and the second component, the second component having a lower melting point than the first component. The packaging material is bonded by at least partially melting and/or softening the second component of the second type of fibres and has a surface calendering by smooth rollers.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to create a packaging material that provides comfort in the user's buccal cavity, while it is durable without an additional binder, and is also soft and capable of absorbing moisture.
