FIELD: aerosol-generating devices.
SUBSTANCE: device includes a heating element coupled to the controller, a battery for providing energy to heat the heating element. The controller is programmed to operate the heating element to perform a first thermal cycle in which the temperature of the heating element is raised to a first temperature to generate an aerosol from an aerosol-forming substrate located adjacent the heating element. The controller is programmed to operate the heating element to start a second thermal cycle in which the temperature of the heating element is raised to a second temperature above said first temperature to thermally release organic material attached or deposited on the heating element. The aerosol generating device is connected to a charging station to recharge the battery. The controller is programmed to operate the heating element to start a second thermal cycle when the aerosol generating device is connected to the charging station.
EFFECT: effective accelerated cleaning of the heating element is ensured due to the transfer of energy by the charger.
