FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of obtaining serotonin. The method includes two stages: the stage of condensation of 4-benzyloxyphenylhydrazine hydrochloride with aminobutyraldehyde diethyl acetal and the subsequent stage of catalytic hydrogenation of the resulting 5-benzyloxytryptamine with hydrogen over a palladium catalyst on activated carbon. The method is characterized by the condensation stage being carried out in methylene chloride at 40°C using a montmorillonite catalyst modified with cobalt(III) chloride.
EFFECT: proposed method eliminates the use of aggressive and toxic trifluoroacetic acid and reduces the temperature of the condensation stage to 40°C.
