FIELD: mercury measurements.
SUBSTANCE: standard sample of an approved type is selected for the mass fraction of total mercury in the soil; calibration of the mercury analyser with its attachment using the specified standard sample; introducing a powdered soil sample weighing from 5 to 25 mg into the attachment to the mercury analyser; thermal destruction of the analysed sample for one minute at a temperature of (700-750)°C the simultaneous formation of ash and combustion vapours of the sample, while mercury vapours contained in the gaseous combustion products of the sample, passing through a tube with a gold thread, settle on its surface to form an amalgam, and the combustion products of the sample without mercury vapours are forced by an air flow from the compressor outside the mercury analyser, bypassing the analytical cell, measurement of the mass of total mercury in the analysed sample with subsequent conversion into the mass fraction of total mercury, whereas a standard sample of the mass fraction of total mercury in soil of any individual composition in the form of a set of three standard samples is used as a standard sample with different specified mass fractions of total mercury, uniform for soils of different compositions, calibration is carried out by obtaining three calibration graphs for a set of three standard samples, common for all individual types of soils in the country and mixtures of them, after thermal destruction of the samples, pulsed thermal destruction of the amalgam is carried out for one minute at temperature (700-750)°C and feeding the resulting mercury vapor by an air flow from the compressor into the analytical cell of the mercury analyser with measurement of the mass of total mercury recalculated into the mass fraction of total mercury.
EFFECT: providing the ability to determine the mass fraction of total mercury in all soils of the country using a standard sample of the mass fraction of total mercury that is the same for soils of different compositions.
