SUBSTANCE: design of bodies of covered cars, in particular the design of the end wall. The body of a covered railway car contains a roof, frame (2), side walls (3), and end walls (4). Each end wall consists of sheathing and a frame, including top trim (7), belts, outer posts, and central posts. The central posts are made of I-beams. In the area of connection between the body frame and the lower part of the end wall, in each central post with an indentation on both sides of the I-beam wall, strips are rigidly fixed, connecting their ends across the width of the I-beam flanges. The strips are made curved. One end face of each strip is aligned with the lower end of the I-beam of the central post, and the second end face of the strip is rigidly fixed to the wall of the I-beam with a curved section.

EFFECT: improved rigidity and strength of the end wall when exposed to operational loads, in combination with minimal material consumption.
