FIELD: electrical chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: used in the production of molybdenum carbide having catalytic properties. An electrochemical method has been proposed for the production of molybdenum carbide using lithium molybdate and potassium carbonate as a carbon source. Electrolysis is carried out in a molten electrolyte containing potassium chloride, with the following ratio of components, mol.%: KCl 82.0-86.0, K2CO3 4.0-6.0, Li2MoO4 10.0-12.0, at a temperature in the range of 1123-1173 K and a current density of 0.5-2,0 A/cm2.
EFFECT: simplifying the production of highly dispersed molybdenum carbide powders.
