FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention concerns a method for counting particles passing through a channel. When implementing the method, a light plane is formed across the channel with a matrix of LED emitters. As the particles pass through the light plane, the original output values generated in each light channel are recorded and the output values are stored in data cells. The original values are normalized so that each cell has a normalized output signal (NOS) value. The NOS values are analysed to identify data cells that are clustered together by at least one NOS value, with each cluster defining a separate event corresponding to at least one particle. For each detected event, the NOS values are summed up and the group velocity and volume of the event are determined. The number of particles of each identified first plane event is determined by classifying the volume of the event.

EFFECT: increase of accuracy of particle counting.
