FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to CMOS-based sequencing and more specifically to systems and methods for increasing sequencing throughput using CMOS-based detection. Biosensor for determining bases in a nucleic acid sequence comprises a sample analysis device which comprises a sample surface having an array of pixel areas, and a solid-state imaging sensor having a sensor array, wherein each sensor generates pixel signals in each base determination cycle, each pixel signal representing light obtained in one base determination cycle from one or more clusters in a corresponding pixel area of the sample surface; and a signal processor configured to be connected to the sample analysis device, which receives and processes pixel signals from the sensors to determine bases in the base determination cycle and uses pixel signals from a smaller number of sensors than the number of clusters whose bases are determined in the base determination cycle, wherein pixel signals from fewer sensors comprise at least one pixel signal representing light received from at least two clusters in a corresponding pixel region.

EFFECT: technical result is increased throughput capacity for detection of nucleic acid chips.
