FIELD: nonlinear optical elements.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nonlinear optical elements with a quasi-continuous circuit and a method for their manufacture. A nonlinear optical element based on an SrB4O7 or PbB4O7 crystal is configured with a plurality of domains with corresponding periodically alternating polarity of the crystal axis, such that the optical element is capable of exhibiting quasi phase matching (QPM). The optical element is manufactured by a method that includes ordering the surface of a block of SrB4O7 or PbB4O7 crystal, resulting in the formation of ordered regions of the same size with the same polarity sign on the surface. The method additionally includes creating a perturbation on the ordered surface, which leads to a change in the sign of the crystal polarity of every second region, and a SrB4O7 or PbB4O7 crystal is formed, containing many domains with alternating polarity, and the domains define the volumetric periodic structure of the crystal, allowing implement the mechanism of phase quasi-matching.
EFFECT: creation of a nonlinear crystal with a periodic structure that provides a mechanism of phase quasi-matching.
