SUBSTANCE: invention relates in particular to the methods for protecting overhead power lines based on the remote principle. According to the invention, when the action of distance protection is allowed, the inputs that provide the supply of instantaneous voltage values in the event of a fault in the voltage circuits are disconnected from the distance protection. Instantaneous values of phase voltages are calculated based on the instantaneous values of the phase current, as well as information about the parameters of the sources at the ends of the power line, bypass connections of the power line and the line itself power transmission. Calculated instantaneous values of phase voltages are provided to the inputs of distance protection to ensure its operation in the event of a short circuit.

EFFECT: ensuring the functioning of distance protection in the event of a fault in voltage circuits under short circuit conditions.
