FIELD: measurement technology; electrical communication equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to determination of point of damage on overhead power transmission lines. For this purpose: detecting damage in voltage measuring circuits; determining current distribution coefficients of direct reverse and zero sequences; purely emergency currents are obtained at ends of overhead power transmission line; forming all possible ratios connecting currents at the point of the assumed fault, emergency currents at the ends of the overhead power transmission line, as well as current distribution coefficients of the direct reverse and zero sequences; generating design ratios for determining the point of damage of the power transmission line by combining emergency currents at the point of damage; and combining the calculated ratios into a matrix expression that minimizes the error in calculating the distance to the point of damage using the least squares method.
EFFECT: determination of the above place by measuring only currents from its two ends.
