METHOD OF PROTECTING FORESTS FROM COCOON MOTHS OF DENDROLIMUS GENUS Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A01N63/14

SUBSTANCE: invention is applicable in protecting plants from pests when carrying out preventive measures. A method of protecting forest plantations from cocoon moths of Dendrolimus genus includes collecting caterpillars during the spring-summer period of planned preventive measures, obtaining pupae, placing the pupae in a cage 1–2 days before the appearance of female butterflies of the target pest, exhibiting the cage with pupae in fading foci of the target pest for laying eggs, infestation of eggs laid in a cage by female butterflies of the target pest, collection of infected eggs, sorting and transportation to the area where preventive measures are being taken to prevent outbreaks of the target pest. The cage for exhibiting pupae and collecting infected eggs consists of a rigid base that creates the volume of the cage, and mesh material that forms a closed contour of the cage, where the volume of the cage’s internal space allows for the free exit of the target pest adult from the pupa, spreading its wings and free movement along the inner walls of the cage, but at the same time does not allow the insect to actively use its wings, and the mesh material has a mesh size of 0.8 to 1.2 mm.

EFFECT: proposed method of protecting forest plantations from cocoon moths of Dendrolimus genus provides effective protection by biological means without any risk of artificially increasing the number of the pest and without harming the flora and fauna of forest plantations.
