SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for cleaning the surfaces of steel products from scale formed during their heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere. A method for cleaning steel products from scale involves exposing the scale to laser radiation and heating its surface to a temperature below its melting point. Then the scale is cooled, realizing the cooling of the heated surface due to the diffusion of heat into the material or due to forced cooling of the heated surface, ensuring a temperature gradient in the scale layer, causing internal stresses in the volume of its dissimilar layers, under the influence of which thermomechanical destruction of the upper solid layer of scale occurs, consisting of hematite, leading to softening, fragmentation and detachment of scale fragments from the surface of the steel. The processing process is repeated cyclically until the required degree of scale destruction, and the softened layer of scale remaining on the surface is removed by at least one of the following methods: abrasive machining, chemical etching, ultrasonic exposure or cleaning with nanosecond laser pulses.

EFFECT: thermal effect on the treated surface is reduced or eliminated.
