FIELD: processing of hydrocarbon mixtures.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of hydrocarbon mixtures, such as crude oil or other hydrocarbon mixtures including non-volatile hydrocarbons, to produce olefins. A method for steam cracking crude oil is described, comprising: contacting crude oil having a final boiling point above 550°C, with steam to evaporate some of the hydrocarbons in crude oil having a normal boiling point less than 450°C, where said hydrocarbon feedstock and steam contact at an initial relative velocity of less than 30 m/sec, the initial relative velocity being the difference in the velocities of the respective flows during initial mixing; separating a vapour phase containing evaporated hydrocarbons and steam from a liquid phase containing unevaporated hydrocarbons; steam cracking of hydrocarbons in the vapour phase; and adjusting the steam temperature and steam supply rate so that they are sufficient to evaporate from 5 to 90 wt.% of hydrocarbons in crude oil. A method for steam cracking crude oil or a part thereof for the production of olefins and/or aromatic compounds is described, comprising: contacting crude oil having a final boiling point above 550°C, with steam to evaporate some of the hydrocarbons in crude oil having a normal boiling point less than 450°C, wherein bringing crude oil and steam into contact produces hydrocarbon droplets having a D10 greater than 30 mcm; extracting a vapour phase containing evaporated hydrocarbons and steam, and a liquid phase containing non-evaporated hydrocarbons; feeding the vapour phase into a steam pyrolysis reactor to convert part of the hydrocarbons contained therein into olefins and/or aromatic compounds; and adjusting the steam temperature and steam supply rate so that they are sufficient to evaporate from 5 to 90 wt.% of hydrocarbons in crude oil. A system for the production of olefins from hydrocarbon feedstocks with a wide boiling range having a final boiling point above 550°C is also described.
EFFECT: effective and selective evaporation of hydrocarbon feedstock, which makes it possible to limit or eliminate the carryover of heavier hydrocarbons, improving the cracking process.
