FIELD: devices for extinguishing an electric arc.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum arc-extinguishing chamber contains a contact pair (1) and (2) with contact surfaces (3), in which one of the electrodes is movable, an evacuated sealed housing (4), an electrical insulator (5), a structural element for ensuring movement (6), means for protecting structural elements from combustion products of a vacuum arc (7) and electrical connections (8) for connection to the electrical circuit, with the electrical connections (8) located at one of the ends of the chamber. This arrangement of electrical contacts when current I(t) flows and a vacuum arc is ignited due to the separation of the contacts at time t1 ensures that the current-carrying plasma is pushed out of the open contact area into the cavity in which the distances between the current-conducting surfaces exceed the distance between the contact surfaces of the electrodes at the maximum distance of the electrodes from each other.
EFFECT: ensuring the removal of plasma and vapours of the electrode material from the gap between the open contacts.
