SUBSTANCE: new beta-hairpin antimicrobial peptide abarenicin which was constructed by introducing two amino acid substitutions into the structure of a natural peptide from the marine polychaete Abarenicola pacifica is proposed. Abarenitsin has high antibacterial activity against key pathogens of nosocomial infections, including multidrug-resistant strains, and is also effective in the treatment of acute Escherichia infection in mice.

EFFECT: expanding the range of peptide antibiotics with an antibacterial effect including against multidrug-resistant bacteria, with a low level of cytotoxic and haemolytic action, that is, with high antibacterial selectivity.
