SUBSTANCE: pharmaceutical composition containing an isolated modified lysine polypeptide of the sequence SEQ ID NO: 3 selected from the group consisting of one or more of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 7, SEQ ID NO: 8 and SEQ ID NO: 9, or a fragment thereof having lysine activity, or a variant thereof having lytic activity, wherein these fragments and variants have at least 80% sequence identity with this modified lysine polypeptide, wherein the modified lysine polypeptide contains amino acid substitutions K100D and R116H relative to SEQ ID NO: 3 and/or contains the peptide sequence SEQ ID NO: 28, SEQ ID NO: 29 or SEQ ID NO: 30 at the N- or C-terminus SEQ ID NO: 3, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein this polypeptide or lysine fragment or variant is present in an amount effective to inhibit the growth or depopulation of, or destruction of gram-negative bacteria.

EFFECT: effective treatment of a gram-negative bacterial infection caused by gram-negative bacteria.
