SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining gas content in a coal seam. The method includes determining the depth of the coal seam from the gas weathering zone. It also includes determining the thickness of the seam and the yield of volatile substances contained in coal. It also includes determining the volume of coal destroyed by a combine during excavation and the flow rate of gas released from it. The mode for measuring the intensity of gas emission from the workings is carried out from the beginning of the time of destruction of coal by the combine until the time it stops. The duration of removal of broken coal from the excavation and its weight volume are also measured. After that, the intensity of gas release from the excavation and the formation surfaces exposed by it are determined by conducting gas surveys along the length of the excavation. An integral dependence of the gas emission intensity along the length of the excavation and a differential dependence are also established. The volume of gas content in a coal seam is determined by the yield of volatile substances as an integral parameter characterizing the physicochemical and material properties of coal. The maximum gas content in coal is also determined by studying the sorption characteristics of coal and identifying the sorption indicators of the Langmuir equation.
