SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining particularly to a method of determining methane content in the coal bed. When drive working in the coal bed, methane consumption is determined in two stages by measuring the working section, air flow speed and methane content in it as well as moisture and ash in the measurement points of the working. At the same time, the time of movement of the broken-down coal from the face of the blind drift to its portal, methane consumption is determined at both stages simultaneously in the face and in the portal of the working after the tunneling machine stopped working or during its work. A coal sample is taken at the portal of the current blind drift in addition to the coal sample taken in the coal-face with the same period of time.
EFFECT: invention will enable to increase accuracy of determining methane content in the coal-bed, enhance control over the effectiveness of degassing and anti-rock outburst activities, afford safety of mining owing to reduction in chances of methane and coal dust explosions.
