FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical devices for brachytherapy, more specifically to applicators for brachytherapy and, in particular, to gynecological applicators. The brachytherapy applicator contains an interstitial tube. The interstitial tube includes a body having a proximal end and a distal end, and a central passage extending from the distal end of the body. The central passage includes a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a channel extending from the proximal opening to the distal opening, and the proximal opening is offset from the axis of the housing. The proximal opening is configured to be fluidly coupled to the brachytherapy guide tube, and the central passage channel is sized to accept at least one of a needle or catheter therethrough. According to a second embodiment, the brachytherapy applicator comprises an interstitial tube, a first ovoid tube having a first ovoid located at a distal end of the first ovoid tube, and a second ovoid tube having a second ovoid located at a distal end of the second ovoid tube. The interstitial tube includes a body having a proximal end and a distal end; a connection located in a distal region of the housing, the connection having a proximal surface having an opening for connection to a brachytherapy guide tube; and a central passage extending distal from the connection, wherein the central passage has a channel extending therethrough that is fluidly coupled to an opening in the connection and extends through the distal end of the central passage such that the distal end of the central passage is open. The first ovoid and the second ovoid together form a generally rectangular surface aligned around the central passage when the first ovoid tube and the second ovoid tube are connected to the interstitial tube. A kit for forming a modular brachytherapy applicator includes an interstitial tube, a first ovoid tube, a first ovoid, a second ovoid tube, and a second ovoid. The interstitial tube has a body having a proximal end and a distal end; and a central passage extending from the distal end of the housing, wherein the central passage includes a proximal opening, a distal opening, and a channel extending from the proximal opening to the distal opening, and wherein the proximal end of the central passage, where the proximal opening is located, is offset from the axis of the housing.
EFFECT: technical result that is achieved by the brachytherapy applicator is to provide more accurate distribution of the medicinal product within the subject by providing positioning of the interstitial tube, the design of which allows the catheter or needle to be passed to the tissue through the central passage of the interstitial tube.
