SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wireless power transmission system. Power transmitter (101) for wireless supply of power to power receiver (105) via an electromagnetic power transfer signal, which includes output circuit (203, 103) containing transmitter coil (103) for generating a power transfer signal in response to a control signal generated by circuit (201) excitement. Power loop controller (209) implements a power control loop for controlling a control signal to adjust the power level of the power transmission signal in response to power control error messages received from power receiver (105). Mode storage (213) stores a plurality of power level modes for the power receiver, with each power level mode associated with a reference power level for the power transfer signal. Mode circuit (211) adapts the control signal to set the power level of the power transmission signal to the first reference value in response to receiving the mode request message, the first reference value corresponding to the reference power level for the first mode of the power level indicated in the mode request message.
EFFECT: improved flexibility of the power control loop to changes in the required power.
