METHOD OF LAND RECLAMATION IN PERMAFROST ZONE Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC E02B13/00 A01B79/00

Abstract RU 2813665 C1

FIELD: land reclamation.

SUBSTANCE: method of reclamation of lands disturbed by thermokarst in the permafrost zone involves reducing the active soil layer (the freezing-thawing layer of the soil). To do this, in the spring of the year, after the snow cover has melted, the earth's surface is levelled by filling subsidence thermokarst craters with pre-moistened hydrophilic organic material, and in winter the snow cover is compacted. Additionally, after levelling, the surface of the earth in the reclamation area is moistened. Both natural hydrophilic materials (chopped tree bark, sawdust, straw, manure, etc.) and their mixtures (mixtures of sawdust and straw, manure and straw, bark and sawdust, etc.) can be used as a hydrophilic organic material. The combination of these measures makes it possible to ensure effective freezing of soils in the active layer in winter, and to reduce the depth of soil thawing in summer. Moreover, surface levelling is carried out in the first year of reclamation, and snow is moistened and compacted annually, until the required level of thawing depth is achieved, excluding the negative thermal effect of the surface on ice inclusions and ice soils on the land being reclaimed. The results of mathematical modelling of the processes of “thawing-freezing” of soil inside craters show that the very next year after reclamation activities, the depth of soil thawing decreases. With each subsequent year, this process continues until thermal processes reach a quasi-stationary level.

EFFECT: ability to minimize the depth of soil thawing in the reclaimed area and avoid progressive soil erosion in areas of underground ice and ice soils in the zone of thermal influence of the earth's surface.
