FIELD: water treatment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to water treatment. Method of producing carbon block material for purifying and disinfecting water involves obtaining an initial mixture of activated carbon and polymer binder by mixing. Carbon block material is formed by thermal compression of the obtained mixture. Then metal compound is added to carbon block material. Dry initial mixture containing particles sized 0.05–0.2 mm of activated carbon with an ash content of 2 to 5% and an iodine number of not less than 1,000 mg/g and a polymer binder with a melt flow index of 0.2 to 10 g/10 min. After making the cartridge containing the carbon block material, it is impregnated with an aqueous solution of a silver salt, followed by washing with water and drying. Carbon block material for water treatment and disinfection has pores with size of 2–100 mcm and consists of 74.98–89.9 wt.% of activated carbon, 10.0–25.0 wt.% of polymer binder, 0.02–0.1 wt.% silver compound.

EFFECT: disinfection of filtered water and filtered water during its idle time is provided, increased efficiency of water purification, including from organic impurities, up to not less than 92% in combination with high resource of purification and disinfection of water, as well as simplification of technology of carbon blocks manufacturing.
