FIELD: medicine; endocrinology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to predict the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Anamnestic data are collected from a patient with type 2 diabetes, establishing the age and duration of type 2 diabetes, the level of postprandial glycemia is determined in a blood test, and the predicted risk of developing diabetic retinopathy (p) is calculated. If p value is from 0 to 24.9% a low risk of developing diabetic retinopathy is predicted. If p value is from 25 to 49.5%, an average risk of developing diabetic retinopathy is predicted. If p value is from 50 to 100% a high risk of developing diabetic retinopathy is predicted.

EFFECT: method improves the accuracy of predicting diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes through the use of a quantitative prediction criterion.
