SUBSTANCE: invention can be used when processing internal and external threads with a comb cutter with replaceable carbide combs. The method of milling a thread with a cutter equipped with cutting elements in the form of combs involves installing the cutter so that its axis is parallel to the axis of the thread being processed. During processing, the milling cutter is programmed to communicate rotation, axial and radial feeds. Before starting processing, the cutter is installed in the axial direction so that the first tooth, when milling a thread from its end to the beginning, is located at a distance of 0.25 of the thread pitch greater than the length of the thread, and the last tooth of the cutter, when milling a thread from its beginning to the end, is located at a distance of 0.25 of the thread pitch before the start of the thread being cut. When cutting, the cutter moves in a spiral with a pitch equal to the thread pitch and a spiral radius equal to 45% of the inner diameter of the thread when processing holes and 45% of the outer diameter of the thread when processing shafts. The cutting feed is 50% of the working feed; after cutting to a given cutting depth, the cutter is moved in a spiral by one thread pitch per turn while maintaining the specified cutting depth, and after processing one thread turn, the cutter is removed from the material being processed. After being removed from the material being processed, the cutter is shifted in the axial direction by an amount smaller by 1.5 thread pitches than the size of the working part of the cutter.
