SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for longitudinal rolling of a strip on a smooth barrel. Billet is fed into deformation zone formed by two rolls. Determining the value of the gap between said rolls during computer-aided design of the process of longitudinal rolling on a smooth barrel using the computing environment of finite element analysis within the framework of plane deformation by determining the length of the geometric source of deformation, the length of the outer zones and the length of the actual source of deformation, consisting of the length of the geometrical source of deformation and the length of the outer zones. If the value of said length of the geometrical source of deformation is not less than , where R is the radius of the rolls in the case of symmetric rolling or the radius of the smaller roll in the case of asymmetric rolling, and Δh is absolute reduction during longitudinal rolling on smooth barrel, distance between rolls is set, which is equal to specified value of gap between rolls.
EFFECT: as a result, accurate determination of the size of the actual deformation centre is provided.
