FIELD: heat treatment.

SUBSTANCE: vertical furnace (1) for continuous heat treatment of metal strip (2), containing input zone (3) for metal strip (2), heating/holding zone (4) with an annealing chamber for heating and maintaining the appropriate temperature of metal strip (2), first cooling zone (5) for cooling metal strip (2), rotating device (6) located after first cooling zone (5) for rotating metal strip (2) towards outlet zone (8) for metal strip (2). Moreover, after rotating device (6) in the direction of advancement, second cooling zone (9) is located, while heating/holding zone (4) and first cooling zone (5) are surrounded by ascending branch (17). Ascending branch (17) and descending branch (18), which includes second cooling zone (9), are connected to each other by rotating device (6). First cooling zone (5) is formed as a radiation cooling zone for the metal strip, and around process chamber (17b) of first cooling zone (5) cooling/heating chamber (28) is placed with cooling fluid (27) flowing through it, and facing in cooling/heating chamber (28), the side surface of wall (29) surrounding process chamber (17b) is washed by cooling fluid (27).
