FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: vitrectomy probe with connecting element for damping vibrations during vitrectomy procedure. Element can have an elastomeric structure adapted for damping vibrations. In addition, the element can be rationally located at the junction between the body, which accommodates the moving parts of the probe, and the ergonomic shell designed to rest on the area between the thumb and forefinger of the surgeon’s hand.
EFFECT: vibrations are substantially damped before reaching the shell and distracting the surgeon, and further, the shell, body and connector are structurally configured for user-friendly removal of the shell for surgeons wishing to perform vitrectomy procedures in the absence of the shell.
