FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: vitrectomy probe body comprises a rear housing component for receiving a first air flow passing through it, a front housing component for receiving a second air flow passing through it, gripping component with needle extending therefrom and intended for holding in hand by surgeon during vitrectomy procedure, wherein the gripping component comprises an elastomer configured to attenuate vibrations. Vitrectomy probe comprises an anterior housing component, a posterior housing component, a membrane located in the space between the anterior housing component and housing rear component and limited by them, for reciprocating movement between them in response to air flows, discrete stops for striking the front component of the body and the rear component of the body during reciprocation, a cutter connected to the membrane and located inside the probe needle, for cutting a vitreous body during a vitrectomy procedure, and a gripping component with a needle, wherein the gripping component comprises an elastomer configured to attenuate vibrations.
EFFECT: attenuation of potentially distracting vibrations, based on the surgeon’s interest, wherein in each case, the reduction of vibration is achieved without detriment to the speed of reciprocating movement of the cutter of the vitrectomy probe.
