SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to ophthalmology. Probe for vitrectomy contains tubular case which has internal opening, closed distal tip and canal. Canal provides access into internal opening. Distal tip has flat internal surface and flat external surface. Distal end of canal is located at a distance from approximately 0.006 inches to approximately 0.016 inches from external surface. Flat internal surface, flat external surface and said distance allow surgeon to place probe closer to retina without contact with retina.

EFFECT: probe can be placed at a small distance from retina.
