FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medical equipment, namely to extracorporeal circulation (EC) systems. Disclosed is an air separator for an EC system, which can be built into an outlet circuit of the EC system. It comprises a tubular body, a blood flow swirler and a gas-containing blood discharge tube. Tubular body includes a cylindrical part, connected to it conical inlet and outlet parts for blood flow sampling and discharge, respectively. Blood flow swirler is installed in the cylindrical part of the body and is made in the form of a conical central body with helical blades arranged in a spiral on its outer surface. Gaseous blood discharge tube is fixed along the axis of the conical central body of the blood flow swirler. Inlet end of the tube is perforated and protrudes into the lumen of the outlet conical part of the body at a distance equal to 1–5 diameters of the blood flow swirler. Outlet end of the gas-containing blood discharge tube is brought out through the wall of the inlet part of the tubular body and is configured to be connected to the blood reservoir of the EC system through the pump of the gas-containing blood discharge system. Inlet angle of the helical blade is 10–20 degrees.
EFFECT: reliable prevention of small vessel embolism by increasing the efficiency of air intake from the EC system and simplifying the manufacture of the air separator due to the convenience of centring the hole of the gas-containing blood discharge tube relative to the axis of the device.
