SUBSTANCE: method of determining the state of contamination and/or leakage of an electric motor includes steps of establishing the actual pressure difference (p) between air chamber (16) and environment (15) of electric motor (1, 1', 1'', 1'''), establishing the actual frequency (n) of rotation of rotor (3), calculating the index (k) of the degree of contamination and/or leakage based on the actual pressure difference (p) and the actual rotation frequency (n) as a result of which the indicator (k) of the degree of contamination and / or leakage, which is representative for the said state of the electric motor, is obtained. Then index (k) of degree of contamination and/or leakage is compared with threshold value, and condition of contamination and/or leakage of electric motor (1, 1', 1'', 1''') is determined based on the result of comparing said indicator (k) with a threshold value.

EFFECT: providing a reliable method for determining the degree of contamination and/or leakage of an electric motor.
