FIELD: ceramic materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a ceramic material B4C-SiC and a method for its production. The material can be used for manufacturing of elements of devices operating under conditions of impact and intense abrasive wear, as well as for manufacturing of armoured ceramics. The claimed method for producing a ceramic material based on B4C-SiC consists of mixing silicon carbide powder with an average particle size of 2-5 mcm, boron carbide with an average particle size of 10-100 mcm, and carbon with an average particle size of 13-120 nm (component ratio 69.6% B4C, 17.4% SiC, 13% C) in a roller mill, introducing a temporary technological binder in the form of a mixture of a 10% solution of polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol in a 50/50 ratio, moulding blanks by pressing in a metal press-form at a pressure of 100 MPa, drying in an oven and siliconizing baking, filling with lump silicon in a ratio of 2:1 relative to the mass of the blank in a vacuum oven in a vacuum at a temperature of 1650 °C for 20 minutes. The time for raising the temperature to the specified values is provided by the power of the furnace and is not included in the duration of the processes.
EFFECT: decreased temperature of obtaining the composite, improved quality, and density of the material decreased to values less than 2.8 g/cm3.
