FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of articles from carbon-containing materials and is meant to protect said articles from oxidation in oxidative medium conditions at high temperatures. The invention can be used in metallurgical industry and in other industries, including aircraft engineering. The method includes forming on the surface of an article a slurry coating based on a composition consisting of a mixture of ultrafine powders of a compound (SiC, B4C, BN, TiB2) which is inert to silicon under siliconisation process parameters and an element and/or compound (carbon, molybdenum, titanium carbide) which is active with respect to said silicon, which form, upon reaction with said silicon, heat-resistant carbides and/or silicides and/or ternary compounds, and a temporary binder, heating the article in a vacuum in a closed reactor volume, holding at temperature of completion of reactions of forming said compounds and cooling in silicon vapour. Impregnation with silicon is carried out by capillary condensation of vapour thereof at the step of heating and/or isothermic holding in a temperature range of 1350-1600°C when temperature drop between the silicon vapour and the article is not less than 5°C, preferably with a degree of oversaturation with silicon vapour which increases over time, subsequently heating to 1650°C.

EFFECT: high performance capability of the coatings in oxidative medium and thermal load conditions.
