SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric traction systems of vehicles. Railway electric traction system comprises a non-electrified section containing rails and an electrified section containing a contact network, including two contact wires, a traction substation with a three-phase transformer, two phases of which are connected to two contact wires, respectively, rails connected to a phase of a three-phase transformer, electric locomotive with traction motors and current collectors fixed on electric locomotive with possibility of their separation from contact wires. System comprises storage battery installed on electric locomotive, connected via switching unit with traction motors and connected via charging device installed on electric locomotive to one current collector of electric locomotive.

EFFECT: higher train traffic safety.
