FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical devices for opening and/or expanding an opening and/or cavity in a patient's body to enable examination of the inside and/or to enable sampling, and/or for the operation, and in particular the invention relates to a vaginal speculum configured to provide an unobstructed view of a smaller portion of the posterior part of the vaginal tissue during examination of the vaginal tissues and/or suturing thereon. Vaginal speculum comprises vaginal assembly (100) comprising two longitudinal elements (102, 104), each having a proximal and a distal end and which are connected at their distal ends (106). Each longitudinal element comprises an inner and outer surface. Vaginal speculum is configured to hold the vaginal walls of the subject at a distance from each other by means of longitudinal elements. Outer surfaces of the longitudinal elements are configured to contact the vaginal walls of the subject during use. Vaginal assembly is made at least partially from an elastic material having a flexural modulus of 1000 MPa to 3500 MPa. Outer surfaces of said one or both longitudinal elements, configured to contact the vaginal walls of the subject during use, have surface roughness of 5 to 31 micrometres Ra. Vaginal mirror array comprises mirrors configured as described above, wherein each mirror of the array differs in at least one dimension from each other. Above vaginal speculum or vaginal speculum array is contained in a sterile, hermetically sealed disposable container. Method for providing an unobstructed view of at least a posterior part of the vaginal wall during examination of a subject after a child has been born, comprising steps of: a distal end of the above vaginal speculum is inserted into a subject’s vagina; before insertion, the longitudinal elements are compressed in the transverse direction towards each other; and after insertion, the longitudinal elements are released. Method of suturing vaginal tissue, comprising steps of: a distal end of the above vaginal speculum is inserted into the vagina of a subject; before insertion, the longitudinal elements are compressed in the transverse direction towards each other; and after insertion, the longitudinal members are released and the tear is sutured in the vaginal tissue of the subject.
EFFECT: vaginal speculum in accordance with the invention has an ergonomic design for the patient and the user, providing an unobstructed view of the vaginal tissue and access for examination, suturing, surgical intervention or training, in addition, facilitates examination or operation without additional use of hooks or fingers of the operating surgeon or teacher, and can be retained inside the vagina without using the drive/locking mechanism at the proximal end of the device.
