FIELD: ceramics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to modification of sialon ceramics, which can be used for making cutting tools, refractories and materials in metallurgical industry, infrared and visible windows, as well as for transparent armor. Method involves mixing the initial sialon powder of general formula Si6−zAlzOzN8−z with a sintering additive of lutetium oxide in a medium of a polar organic solvent, followed by drying in air, followed by annealing in nitrogen flow and subsequent cooling in nitrogen flow to room temperature. High-temperature treatment of the material is carried out in two steps at temperatures of 1,450 °C and 1,650 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere with holding at temperature of 1,450 °C for 1 hour and at temperature of 1,650 °C for 2 hours.
EFFECT: obtaining sialon ceramics with high density and/or improved physical and mechanical properties in one main process step.
